More Summer Happenings

Another fair project complete

Great library program with our friends from college...Scott Humston.  Daniel got picked to be one of the assistants (nepotism- gotta love it!).  It's always a great show.  Scott's wife came this time and I really enjoyed chatting with her.  We knew each other in college, but didn't really get close because I was boy crazy or something like that.  Now, we both home school and keep in touch on facebook so I think we know each other better now than we did then.  That's pretty awesome!

The dress-up bug has claimed it's next victim.  Daniel was obsessive about costumes when he was younger...he loved capes, especially.  So, every time we went through Daniel's toy, we always kept costumes.  Now, Michael is totally into dressing up.  He started out as Superman, then Spiderman and now he's Larryboy.  (We took Daniel's Bibleman cape and mask and I made him a Larryboy belt out of posterboard, tape and ribbon- He's one happy little dude).

Summer of change

This summer has found me pre-occupied with change--most good.  But if you've known me for any length of time, you know change and I have a very tense relationship.    I've had several musings going on in my brain, but I've not felt like posting for various reasons.    I like to share/blog openly, but there are times, when it's better not to share.    I like this post entitled...What I Don't Show You (or Why I Blog Carefully)

Anyway, our biggest change came a few weeks ago.  JP got a new job!!!!  He's with the same company, but applied for a promotion and was accepted.  His new position has him in a new building with new people and new machines and new, more (stressful) responsibilities.  He started training this week and boy, has it been rough.  He is working the opposite shift he normally works (he'll go back to his regular shift after training)  and that has thrown us all for a loop.  I wish I were over-exaggerating about this.  I do believe God worked it out for him to have this job, even down to the specific boss he ended up with.  We look at the situation and go:  "Wow!  God placed you right where you should be!"  That's pretty cool, even if we are all cranky and grumpy as we adjust.   I always knew Tera was a Daddy's girl but it was confirmed this week...she has missed her Daddy to the point of tears the first couple of days.

After JP's first day of work, we went out to eat to celebrate.  There is a Cuban restaurant that opened up a new location on our side of town.  We've always liked it, but this was the first time taking the kids and eating in.  We split a big Cuban sandwich meal between Tera and Daniel...they both loved it.  They had a special that day, so I was able to eat something delicious without going too far into forbidden territory.  Michael was fine with an empanada and we split a piece of flan for dessert.

Walking around the outside of JP's new work place...there's this small Eco-park with a pavillion.  With the weather we've been having the sprinklers caught the kids' attention more than anything in nature.

An even bigger change is going on in our extended family...I wasn't going to announce anything because it was supposed to be a secret...but my mom has a hard time keeping good secrets.  So I'm free to share!

My mom is getting MARRIED!!!!!  She has dated Fred for 23 years and recently he has had a health scare.   They have planned a very informal wedding ceremony with some friends and family.  All the grandkids will be the attendants and my brother will give my mom away.  My brother, sister-in-law (and her family) and I are taking care of most of the arrangements.  I've been running so much, it's crazy.  Paper goods, dress and shoes for Tera, shirts and shoes for the boys, some non-perishable food, music, very simple decorations...I'm so glad I eloped.  This wedding stuff is hard work, but I couldn't be happier.  I told Fred on Father's Day, "I don't need a license for you to be my dad..."  He replied, "Don't tell your momma that!"  I thought that was so funny.    We are as excited as can be for both of them.  They are so giddy and I talk to my mom every day.  I'm so glad she's getting the happiness she deserves and if I'm run ragged-it's worth it!!!

Well, I hope I've had my share of change this summer, but I know that..."in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."  Romans 8:28  So whatever comes my way, He's there and I'll make it!

AMSE

We love the American Musuem of Science and Energy!  Since JP was in Oak Ridge to pick up a guitar he had repaired, we decided to have him drop us off.

The whisper dish is always a favorite.  There are tons of brain buster puzzles on the lower level and a write your name in braille machine.

Little kids play area- if you are thinking the subject material may be over the head of your toddler...go anyway.  There are so many buttons to push, bright colors, wheels to turn, videos, etc. so that Michael gets tired and hungry before he gets bored.

There is a travelling exhibit on the Cold War and the Cuban Missile Crisis and a new Energy Conservation room from TVA.

It's great to see Tera start to get into things on her own.

This is another favorite room the kids love...maybe because it has tons of mirrors, a black light room and shocking machines.

We didn't have time to walk all around the musuem this time, but you could easily spend several hours there.  It's cool temperature wise, which is always a plus in this heat.

Father's Day Weekend

We thought we were just going to chill out this weekend but after a call to the blueberry farm...we were off on an adventure.

They had enough blueberries for a few people to pick, so they told us to come on over.  We ended up with 18 lbs.  This was the first year, Michael has been big enough to pick any berries.  He was so cute with his little bucket.  Then, we went out for ice cream, as is our blueberry picking day tradition!
