30 days of bread: I Love English Muffins

The title should be I love homemade English muffins. I love my bread machine too. I love that I can make homemade English muffins in my bread machine.  I've made these so many times that they are almost a staple in our house.  I definitely do not buy English muffins anymore.

Here is the best recipe for Bread Machine English Muffins:

1 cup milk (I usually substitute buttermilk)
3 Tbsp butter or shortening (butter is better)
1 egg
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsps. sugar
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsps. dry yeast

1. Put ingredients in bread machine in the order listed. Pick dough cycle.
2. After cycle is finished, spread cornmeal over your work surface.
3. Divide dough into 8 to 10 rounds- I just shape them in my hands.
4. Let rise for 20-30 minutes
5. Heat a cast iron skillet or griddle over low heat.
6. Cook 5 to 7 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

Split them open with a fork or with your favorite toppings. I've even made 2 batches and had English Muffin pizzas for lunch.

I found this recipe on, but when I looked for a link I could not find it. The recipe's number # 63244 if you are interested in finding it there.
